Members of religious sect rally in central Kyiv

Members of the God's Embassy sect headed by Sandei Adeladzha are holding a rally in central Kyiv demanding that the city authorities extend the lease for the premises the sect currently occupies.

Some 10,000 rally participants are moving from the Kyiv Sports Palace to Kreshchatik, a major Kyiv street, where the Kyiv city administration is located, Interfax has learned.

The right side of Kreshchatik has been closed to traffic. The rally participants are chanting religious slogans. The rally near the building of the Kyiv city administration was due to begin at 4:00 p.m. local time.

The rally has been sanctioned by the city authorities, Interfax was told.

All in all, some 15,000 people are taking part in the rally, including members of the Ukrainian Christian Liberal Party headed by Leonid Chernovetsky.
