Cambodian teachers want God erased

Amid reports of religious tensions between the Buddhist majority and Christian evangelists, teachers in Cambodia have called for the word God to be removed from school textbooks.

The Cambodian Independent Teachers' Association said that God was a Christian concept at odds with the Cambodian constitution, which enshrines Buddhism as the state religion.

Earlier this month a Buddhist group in Prey Veng province east of the capital Phnom Penh warned that there would be a religious war if Christian preachers continued enticing potential converts with food.

The group compared Christian evangelists to Pol Pot, the genocidal leader who attempted to eradicate Cambodian culture and start from scratch in the 1970s
