The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has appealed to the National Assembly to pass bills to guard against fanaticism and terrorism in Nigeria.

CAN Chairman in the Shendam Local Government in Plateau State, Rev. Daniel Kangkum, made the appeal on Tuesday in Jos while addressing newsmen.

Kangkum urged the National Assembly to spell out stringent penalties against any infrigement of the law against terrorism in the country.

He urged the national and state assemblies as well as local councils to pass bills that would completely bar people from carrying arms in the name of hunting or cattle rearing.

He said, it was through such acts that arms and ammunition were being sneaked into the country by people who do not mean well for the country and its citizens.

Kangkum called on the government to check the activities of security operatives who always took sides during crises, adding that it was a strong signal to insecurity in the country. He called on the Plateau State Government to release the white paper on the recent crisis in the state as soon as the peace committee submitted its report.
