Two Feared Dead in Ibadan Poly Cult Clash

A bloody cult clash at the Polytechnic, Ibadan Oyo State, yesterday left two suspected cultists dead while six others were seriously injured.

The tragedy resulted from the clash of two rival cults -- Black Axe and Eiye Confraternity -- said to be engaged in a supremacy war.

An eye-witness told THISDAY in Ibadan yesterday that dangerous weapons, including guns and machetes were freely used during the clash in which several people sustained multiple injuries, including some security staff of the institution.

THISDAY gathered that the two dead victims, believed to be student cultists, reportedly belonged to the Black Axe and Eiye Confraternity.

The bloody clash was said to have occurred at about 3 p.m. and lasted about 45 minutes.

The corpses of the two victims brought to the Alafia Hospital Mokola, Ibadan were rejected by the authorities.

Although the hospital admitted others for treatment, it rejected Mr. Sheriff Adigun who sustained a serious head injury. He was said to be an HND II Estate Management student.

Adigun, who was brought to the hospital soaked in his own blood, wore a heavy bandage on his head.

Armed policemen have been drafted to the polytechnic to maintain peace as news of counter attack by rival cults circulated freely.
