Nigeria: Junior Pastor Accused of Biting Off Senior's Ear

Abuja, Nigeria - The police in Abuja yesterday arraigned a junior pastor of Celestial Church of Christ, Sauka- Kahuta, Lugbe, before an Abuja Magistrate Court for allegedly biting off the ear of Senior Pastor Stephen George of the same church on February 26.

Pastor Remilekun Akinleye of Tundunwada, Lugbe, was charged with causing grievous hurt, an offence punishable under Section 247 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Yilkudi Dungji, told the court that on the said date, the complainant reported at Lugbe Police Station that the accused attacked him and in the process bit off his left ear with his teeth.

He said the complainant sustained injuries and was rushed to National Hospital, Abuja for treatment with the bill yet to be known, adding that the accused confessed to the crime.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and sought for bail, while the prosecutor asked for a hearing date.

Magistrate Tony Chukwuemeka Ubani granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum, who must reside within the court's jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned till March 31 for hearing.
