Anti-Islam moves worry French Muslims

Paris, France - The French Council of the Muslim Faith has voiced deep concern over rising anti-Islamic sentiments in the country.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the council called on French officials to put the issue on the agenda of the parliament, IRNA reported.

Referring to the supporting stance taken by the French government toward the Jewish community in the country and its measures against any anti-Judaic activities in the country, the council emphasized its worries over the spread of the anti-Islamic sentiments in the nation.

The statement also demanded the French government to set up a particular body, agreed by the parliament, to deal with this concern.

The French Council of the Muslim Faith is the only association responsible for issues pertaining to Muslims in the country.

Statistics indicate that, out of a population of 65 million in France, at least 5 million are Muslims. France has the largest Muslim population in Europe.

This is while Muslims have no representatives to the French parliament.
