Tigania East MP Peter Munya was at pains to explain to his constituents why he was being associated with the outlawed Mungiki sect.
Mr Munya dissociated himself from the group saying he had never been a member nor sympathiser of the banned sect after his constituents challenged him to explain his relationship with the group at the weekend.
He also threatened to sue a local daily that linked him to the sect when he attended a public rally with his Subukia counterpart, Koigi wa Wamwere, in Limuru recently.
Munya claimed that the newspaper report was a wider scheme by MPs allied to LDP to tarnish his name along with other politicians who "fully back President Kibaki's Government".
He claimed that he was being targeted because of his opposition to the creation of an executive prime minister's post in the new Constitution.
"However, I will not be cowed even if I'm associated with Mungiki or Dini ya Msambwa," he said.
The Safina legislator was speaking at Nchui primary school during the Muthara educational zone prize-giving day last Saturday.
During the function, one speaker after another had challenged Munya to tell the truth about his relationship with the proscribed sect.
Munya, who was accompanied by his lawyer Okong'o Omogeni, said he had sought an apology from the daily, failure to which he would move to court to clear his name.
He said he would continue to support the Government as long as it performed to the expectations of the people.
