Former Sect Member Testifies In Robidoux Trial

It has been a morning of disturbing testimony in the murder trial of Jacques Robidoux, who is accused of killing his 1-year-old son.

NewsCenter 5's Rhondella Richardson said that child's uncle, David Horton, who left the group testified about the months before the child's death.

A videotape of Samuel Robidoux was shown in the courtroom. Horton said that the 1998 videotape was from the Attleboro religious sect's Feast of the Tabernacle Celebration -- 15 days of dancing, singing, sleeping and eating in a back yard tent.

Horton defected from the sect in May 1999, just a few weeks after Samuel Robidoux's death. He told jurors how he felt about Jacques Robidoux being named elder, or leader, of the sect.

"I felt sick to my stomach and, at the time, I felt as though Jacques was still young and inexperienced," Horton said.

He also testified that it was a so-called message from God to another sect member that prompted Jacques Robidoux and his wife to withhold solid food from his son, and only feed him breast milk.

Horton left the witness stand in tears, Richardson said.
