Court in Uzbek South Jails Two Members of Banned Religious Group

TASHKENT - A court in southern Uzbek Surkhandarya Region has sentenced two men to long prison terms for belonging to the outlawed religious group Hezb-e Tahrir.

The police arrested the two young men when they were distributing leaflets calling people to overthrow the existing constitutional system in Uzbekistan. A rapid reaction group of the Saryassiya District police directorate found 18 leaflets on Obidjon Otakhonov and 14 leaflets on Shavkat Kholov.
