Increasing support for the Norwegian State Church

The support for the Norwegian Lutheran State Church has shown a strong increase over the past year, following a steady decrease over the last 10 years, Aftenposten reports.

A survey shows that 40 per cent of those asked now want to maintain the State Church. This is an increease of 12 percentage points in just one year.

At the same time, the number of those who want to separate state and church has decreased by 6 points, to 36 per cent.

The number of those who are uncertain has been reduced from 30 percent to 24 per cent, according to the poll, which was made by Opinion.

Oslo Bishop Gunnar Staalsett says to Aftenposten that he is not surprised by the result of the survey.
