Satanists on attempted murder charges

AUTHORITIES in Germany have charged two members of a satanic cult with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a man repeatedly to drink his blood.

The superior court in the eastern German town of Neubrandenburg have remanded a 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old man in custody as suspects in the stabbing of a 40-year-old man.

The victim survived the surprise attack.

The prosecutor says the two arrested had admitted their crime and acknowledged wanting to drink the man's blood in a satanic ritual.

During questioning, the pair said they'd been inspired by another German couple who killed a colleague in Satan's name in July 2001 in a macabre ritual.

The two were sentenced in January to 15 and 13 years in a psychiatric institution in a case that made headlines throughout the country.
