Romanian witches bring magic touch

BUCHAREST (Reuters) - Organisers of a consumer goods fair in the Romanian capital Bucharest has called in 100 witches to bring some magic to the event and boost visitor numbers.

"Magic is a fashionable topic in Romania and we wanted to show the visitors witches at work", General Fairs director Romexpo Tiberiu Pap told Reuters on Wednesday.

The witches, from all over the country, came dressed in their traditional Roma brightly-coloured skirts and gold jewellery and will read tarot cards and tell fortunes throughout the five-day event, promoting everything from T-shirts to swimming pools.

The witches were happy to boast about their supernatural powers. "I received these golden sandals, the golden crown and the golden bag as a prize for my exceptional powers in India," said Maria Campina, 56, voted Queen of White Magic by her colleagues.
