Plateau is a Secular State - Governor

The Plateau State government has re-stated its stance on promotion of religion harmony in the state based on secular principles of the nation's constitution on freedom of worship.

Stating this at the farewell ceremony for the 933 Muslim pilgrim performing the 2002 Hajj last week Friday, at Rwang Pam Township Stadium Jos, the Plateau State Governor, Chief Joshua Dariye urged the faithfuls and religious leaders to embrace peace and harmony at all times.

The governor who was participating at the presidential Retreat on Peace and Conflict Resolution at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, near Jos, spoke through his deputy, Chief Micheal Botmang.

chief Botmang announcing that out of the 933 pilgrims, 306 were sponsored by the state government, warned them not to engage in any act that will bring shame to the state or nation. He further said they should pray for reconciliation and success of the re-engineering agenda in the state.

His words: "Pray to God for reconciliation and success of the re-engineering agenda which has brought meaningful dividends of democracy to the people of our state," adding, "re-engineering includes the spiritual rejuvenation and fulfilment of the people".

In their earlier remarks, Hassan Ibrahim Abubakar and Alhaji Danlami Moham-med member National committee on Hajj 2002 and secretary of the Muslim Pilgrims welfare, Plateau State, respectively commended the state government for providing support, care and comfort to the pilgrims.

Abubakar who used the opportunity to enlighten the general public on some activates of the National Committee on Hajj advised the pilgrims to heed the governor's advise.
