Man beheads sister-in-law, surrenders

A man beheaded his sister-in-law in a Jharkhand village because he thought she was a witch and later calmly walked into a police station with the severed head.

The shocking incident took place Sunday in Japkakona village of Simdega district, about 190 km from here.

According to police, Gansu Singh beheaded her with a sharp-edged weapon, then got his head tonsured and reached Sadar police station in the district. The stunned policemen promptly arrested him on charges of murder and sent him to jail.

The victim was the wife of Singh's cousin.

Police officers said Singh had no regrets over the murder because he held her responsible for the death of his three children.

The children had died due to a diseases and Singh suspected that the victim had used black magic to kill them.

More than 600 women have been killed in the last 10 years because of suspicion that they were witches.
