Warren Jeffs pretrial hearing cancelled

San Angelo, USA - A pretrial conference for Warren Jeffs regarding the pending trial of the imprisoned prophet of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on bigamy charges has been postponed indefinitely, a clerk at the Schleicher County courthouse confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

The conference had been scheduled to take place Friday in San Angelo. On Dec. 28, 51st District Attorney Steve Lupton filed a motion to continue the hearing in part because the state's lead attorney in the case, Eric Nichols, had a conflict on the Jan. 6 conference date. The motion asked for a date in "late 2012."

The motion noted that Jeffs appeared to be "currently unrepresented by counsel" and had no other judicial commitments pending. Jeffs is serving a life plus 20 year sentence in the prison complex at Palestine.
