Pediatrician testifies at Ore. faith-healing trial

Oregon City, USA - The manslaughter trial of two members of the Followers of Christ church in Oregon City is resuming with testimony from a pediatrician who specializes in the care of newborns.

The Oregonian (http://bit.ly/qWqcx4 ) reports that the neonatologist, Dr. Joseph Kaempf, is expected to testify Monday about the treatment that might have saved the life of David Hickman. The infant was born two months early with a bacterial infection and underdeveloped lungs and lived less than nine hours.

His parents, Dale and Shannon Hickman, are charged with failing to seek medical help for him. Their church avoids doctors, and its members use faith-healing rituals.

The trial started Wednesday and is expected to last up to five weeks.
