Argumentation Provided by Court Acquitting Jehovah Witnesses

Moscow, Russia - The argumentation of the Golovinsky court of the city of Moscow in the case seeking liquidation of the Moscow community of Jehovah's Witnesses, has been provided to the parties. In the hearing that lasted for more than 2 years the attorney of the north district accused the community of inciting religious division, ruining of family, coercion to suicide and violation of rights and freedoms.

The court concludes that no charges have been substantiated.

The witness testimony was found mainly reflecting their points of view of the religious community of Jehovah's Witnesses, and no facts have been provided to support the claim.

Analyzing the conclusions of the legal experts, the court notes that although four experts see the community literature as negative, none of them was able to produce any objective research data to support the conclusion.

The court cites the expert study of the RF ministry of justice, showing that the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses is a religious one...Its practice does differ mainly from many other traditional and new religious organizations.

The court was guided by the RF Constitution, the International Covenant of Civil Rights, and the European Convention of Human Rights and Basic Freedoms- according to which, everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.
