Tweed, Australia - MEMBERS of the Tweed Valley Hare Krishna community are in mourning over the death of their spiritual leader Srila Narayana Maharaja on December 29.
A public memorial will be held at Knox Park, Murwillumbah this Friday to honour his life and teachings.
Murwillumbah local Mali Tidyman is one of many affected by the spiritual leader's death.
“He was a friend of everyone; a true model of humility, wisdom and compassion,” she said.
“Anyone who met him was instantly enchanted by his affection, regardless of their race, age or religion.”
Mr Maharaja made regular visits to the Tweed Valley and was a mentor for the Hare Krishna community.
“He has left behind a wealth of books, teachings and instructions so we will carry on under that guidance.”
“He also has many senior disciples that he has been training for several decades.
“We will hopefully spend the rest of our lives cultivating our deep feeling of longing to be with him and the Lord.”
Mr Maharaja passed away at the age of 90 in Jaganatha Puri, India.
Friday's service is scheduled to begin at 5pm and will feature devotional singing and meditation and a vegetarian feast.
All members of the public are welcome to attend.
