Satanism teen not guilty of father's murder

Sydney, Australia - A Sydney teenager has been found not guilty of the murder of his father and the attempted murder of his mother by reason of mental illness.

The boy was 16 when he stabbed his parents in their Baulkham Hills home in March last year. The father died from his injuries.

In handing down the judgement in the Supreme Court, Justice Hoeben said documents found by police revealed the teenager's increasing interest in Satanism, and that he had also planned to kill two classmates and himself.

He said he was satisfied the accused was impaired in his capacity to judge whether his actions were right or wrong.

The teenager will come under the direct supervision of the Mental Health Review Tribunal and will not be released until it is satisfied that neither the accused nor the community are at risk.
