Shri Vithal devotees on way to Pandharpur

Keri, India - Devotees of Shri Vithal, hailing from Mulgao and other areas of Goa, are on the way to Pandharpur on foot. This is a unique feat to be performed by the devotees to reach Pandharpur which is about 525km from Mulgao.

The spread of the Bhakti movement in Goa and Maharashtra during the medieval period inculcated the spirit of oneness among the people. The traditions of Dindi have evolved from the Bhakti cult.

The pilgrims, chanting the name of Shri Vithal and various saints of the Bhakti cult, will reach Pandharpur on the auspicious occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi, the eleventh day of the first fortnight of the fourth month of the Hindu calendar. It falls on July 3 this year.

The pilgrims started their journey in the early morning of June 19. They cover a distance of 40km per day. In six days they covered 200km and reached Sangli via Dodamarg, Tillari Ghat, Halkarni, Mahagao, Nipani, Kagal and Karveer.
