Police breaks up unauthorised procession in Lucknow

Lucknow, India Police today fired tear gas shells to disperse a religious procession which members of the Sunni sect tried to take out despite being refused permission from the authorities, police said.

The incident occurred this afternoon, when members of the sect attempted to take out a 'juloos-e-Mohammadi', the procession to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed.

ADM City (East) Anil Pathak told PTI that "The sect members wanted to take out a procession from Chowk area to Sadar via Kaiserbagh Baradari, for which permission was not granted. Trouble started, when the processionists forcibly tried to take out the rally. We had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the mob."
