J-K Police foil bid to kill Dera chiefs; three arrested

Kanachak, India - The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled a plot to eliminate Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and Ropar-based religious leader Baba Bhaniarewala following the arrests of three insurgents owing allegiance to Shiromani Akali Dal Panch (SADP), a Punjab-based terror outfit.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Alok Kumar, the three terrorists were plotting to eliminate the two sect leaders for their alleged blasphemous acts.

The three were identified as Malkeet Singh (37) general secretary of SADP, Surjeet Singh (35) and Harbans Singh (35) — all residents of Barnala district in Punjab. The police have also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK 47 and five Chinese pistols from them.

“Following a tip-off, the Jammu police intercepted their Tata Indica on the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway near Domana. Interrogation is on but so far they have not revealed much. We are trying to find out from where did they procure such a huge cache of arms,” said Kumar.

The SSP also said that a Punjab Police team would arrive in Jammu soon. Kumar also didn’t rule out the possibility of the terrorists having links to Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF). “As of now nothing can be said. We are investigating and the possibility cannot be ruled out.”
