Activity of religious organization in East Kazakhstan suspended

Astana, Kazakhstan - The prosecutor's office of Semipalatinsk, East Kazakhstan, has suspended the Evangelic Christian Baptists religious organization due to a lack of registration.

"As a result of a check by the city prosecutor's office, an administrative case was opened and sent to the special administrative court of Semipalatinsk," a statement by the Kazakh Prosecutor's General Office says.

The religious organization was established without being registered at the relevant agencies, it says.

"A preaching house was opened where worshipers gathered once a week. The preacher claimed that he had not registered the organization because the law on the freedom of religion and religious organizations significantly restricts the activity of his organization," the statement says.
