Church leaders city meeting is holy historic

The Archbishop of Canterbury has met with the heads of Scotland’s three main churches for the first time in Edinburgh.

Dr Rowan Williams met his fellow religious leaders at a reception at Heriot-Watt University during his first official visit north of the Border since taking up the post.

The historic meeting was between Dr Williams; the Most Rev Bruce Cameron, the primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church; Cardinal Keith O’Brien, the head of Scotland’s Catholic Church; and Dr Alison Elliot, the moderator of the Church of Scotland.

Although holders of the posts have met in the past they have never all met together at the same time in Scotland.
