Monrovia, Liberia - A Liberian woman has been arrested after dumping her 2-year-old child in a well in the capital Monrovia, reports said Monday. The 39-year-old woman, who claims to be a witch, said she dumped her son in the well as a gift to members of a witch cult to which she belonged.
The child was saved from drowning by neighbours.
The woman said she and other cult members had eaten other members' children over the years and that it was now her turn to sacrifice her child.
The woman told the Catholic-run Veritas radio station that she had refused to sacrifice her first child, now aged 21, and that she had come under immense pressure to "fulfil her part of the bargain."
