Settlement in southern California sex abuse lawsuit

Los Angeles-AP -- A sex abuse case against the Catholic church in southern California has been settled.

A woman who claims a priest had sexual contact with her starting more than 20 years ago will get one-point-two (m) million dollars.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles says the settlement was reached even though its investigation of the woman's allegations couldn't confirm the events ever happened.

The priest accused by the woman resigned last year after admitting he had sexual relationships over the years with several women and teen-age girls.

He has agreed to ask Pope John Paul to allow him to leave the priesthood.

The Catholic church has been rocked by a clergy abuse scandal that's led to the suspension or forced resignation of dozens of priests nationwide.
