GENEVA (AP) — Margot Kaessmann, a Lutheran bishop from Germany, has quit her leadership post with the World Council of Churches to protest changes the organization made last week to give Orthodox members a greater voice.
The new setup shifts from majority voting to "consensus" decision-making. The Orthodox minority felt they were dominated by the Protestant majority on matters like women clergy and joint Communion services.
Kaessmann, leader of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, thinks if such differences cannot be bridged the Orthodox and Protestants should consider forming separate world organizations, Ecumenical News International reported.
