Suva, Fiji - The Assembly of Christian Churches is now hoping that the government urgently formulates laws to control the introduction of new church denominations in the country.
ACC Chairman and Methodist Church Assistant General Secretary, Rev. Tuikilakila Waqairatu has revealed that there are more than 1,200 new religious organisations in the country.
The new church denominations have not been registered with either the ACC or the Fiji Council of Churches, and are not recognized in Fiji.
The Reverend said the ACC is now concerned that having new churches will send mixed messages to members of the public:
The Justice Ministry has confirmed that they are drawing up a drift bill that would put up requirements for any new church or religious organisation coming into Fiji.
