Moscow, Russia - Co-chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Nafigullah Ashirov thinks that the practice of polygamy had spread widely among the Muslim population of the country in the past years.
‘Some ten percent of male Muslims is a constant indicator. They have a dozen children by their second and third wives’, the mufti said to Interfax and underlined that ‘this threatens the anti-Islamists’.
According to Ashirov, there are some ten percent polygamists among Russian muftis. Ashirov himself announced his willingness to take the second wife. He added, however, that ‘not all women would agree to marry a polygamist’.
