Bill to list Sikhism as separate religion

New Delhi, India - NCM chairman S. Tarlochan Singh, who is also a member of the upper house of the Indian Parliament known as Rajya Sabha introduced a bill in the ongoing session and demanded that the Section 25 of the Indian constitution be amended and Sikhism be listed therein as a separate religion.

In his address to the parliament he said that the Constitutional Reforms Commission setup by the Indian government for updating the Indian Constitution had also recommended that the Sikh Religion be listed as a distinct and separate religion in the commission's report dated 29 March 2003.

Further he also updated the house that Hindu organisations VHP and RSS has clarified in their respective replies to the NCM that they recognise Sikhism as a separate and distinct religion.

In his interaction with the media Mr. Tarlochan Singh termed the resignation of Jagdish Tytler as a mere drama. He said that the resignation is no substitute to judicial proceedings and eventual punishment of the guilty of 1984 anti Sikh riots.

He said that the Nation and especially the Sikhs have a right to know who was responsible to the 1984 anti Sikh riots, who led the murderous mobs and incited people to kill the innocent Sikhs. He said that till the guilty are punished the Sikhs will not rest and the protests will continue.
