Small screens could replace clergy in country pulpits

New South Wales, Australia - Modern technology could see DVDs replace clergy in regional New South Wales.

The Uniting Church is exploring the use of pre-recorded worship services to ensure parishioners can access church if there are not enough clergy.

The church's rural chaplain, the Reverend Kel Hodge, says all churches are being forced to address the problem.

"Either there's not enough clergy to go around, or not enough resources to support those clergy, so we are trying to work out ways of filling in the gaps and offering alternative ways of being church," Rev Hodge said.
