Lagos, Nigeria - Two pastors have confessed to robbing a bank in Nigeria`s southwest state of Ondo of 25 million naira ($188,000) to enable them open their church, the local press reported Friday.
The pastors, identified by the police who paraded them before newsmen Wednesday as Matthew Adeniji and Akeem Anjorin, were part of a gang of seven arrested by the police for robbing the NBN bank in Akure, the state capital, last month.
Each of the pastors got 4 million naira ($30,000), while the other members of the gang shared the remainder of the loot.
"I bought three cars with my own share of the money," Anjorin told journalists.
"I still keep other money that Pastor Matthew and I want to use in building our church because we had plans of opening our own church."
The two pastors, who minister at the World Soul Winning Evangelical Mission (WOSEM) in the southwest city of Ibadan, met in prison and claimed to have become born-again Christians after they were released.
