Nairobi, Kenya - An Imam was yesterday stabbed as he entered a mosque for morning prayers.
Sheikh Abduliraladir was taken to Mt Elgon Hospital after he was stabbed outside Jamia Mosque, Kitale at 6.30am.
Abduliraladir bled profusely and doctors stitched the wound.
Kitale Officer Commanding Police Division, Augustine Kimanteria, said the suspect was in police custody.
But he said the motive of the assault could not be immediately established.
"We are carrying out investigations to establish the cause of the attack," Kimanteria said.
Worshippers at the mosque said Abduliraladir was humble and were surprised at the incident. The mosque was closed as worshippers converged in groups to discuss the incident.
A woman sobbed as Islamic leaders demanded through investigations into the incident.
