Christian missionary stopped from holding camp

Amritsar, India - The district administration today prevented holding of a function by a Christian missionary outfit in view of protests from certain Hindu outfits including the Bajrang Dal.

The missionary outfit--Kolenjithekkel Oommen--was to organise a camp at the Gole Market near Durgiana Temple here this afternoon for curing various ailments of the suffering people by holy methods prescribed in the Bible.

Some Hindu organisations like the Bajrang Dal, fearing forced conversion of people, protested against the programme and threatened to hold a demonstration at the venue of the programme.

Sensing trouble, the district collector Kirandeep Singh Bhullar ordered the organisers not to hold the proposed programme.

The organisers, thus, changed their venue from Gole Market to Jahazgarh bus stand but police intervened and prevented the organisers from holding the programme there as well.

Earlier, 56 Sikhs have been baptised as Christian at a function held by a Christian missionary in Goindwal town in this district yesterday.
