Buddhist group claims Vietnam monk detained for visiting church leader

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - A Buddhist monk has reportedly been arrested in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City after he visited the deputy leader of the dissident Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam.

The International Buddhist Information Bureau, based in France, says Thich Vien Phuong was held after he left the Thanh Minh Zen Monastery, where he had visited Thich Quang Do.

However, the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry denies the arrest took place and police have refused to comment.
