Moscow, Russia - The Russian Council of Muftis adopted a common education standard for Islamic religious higher education.
As the Council's spokesman told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, the document was adopted the day before by a session of the Council for Islamic Education in Moscow. The chiefs and representatives of regional Muslim Spiritual Departments and heads of Islamic higher education institutions attended the session.
"Unification of curricula is to facilitate establishing a common educational environment, a common system to stem the proliferation of extremist and sectarian trends," the Russian Council of Muftis spokesman stressed.
History of archaic and non-Islamic religions, up-to-date religious movements, state legislation on religion, Islamic philosophy and dogma, polemic, fundamentals of Islamic law, Islamic ethos and moral, and Islamic trends and sects are among the disciplines covered by the new standard.
The Council also decided to re-certify the imams of local Muslim organizations that are part of the Russian Council of Muftis
