Archbishop of Canterbury to visit Middle East

The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams, spiritual leader of the Anglican church, is to visit Israel and the Palestinian territories next month.

A spokeswoman for the archbishop said: "It is expected that Dr Williams will visit churches and church and community projects in Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories during the course of an extended pastoral visit at the end of January.

"The programme has not yet been finalised; further details will be announced in due course," the spokesman told AFP on Friday

Williams, the spiritual head of more than 70 million Anglicans worldwide, had accepted an invitation from the Anglican bishop in Jerusalem.
