The Vatican’s Secretary of State has urged the Catholic Church not to become involved in Turkey’s application to join the European Union.
"The Holy See is neutral on political matters", EU Business reports Sodano as saying. "We cannot tell Switzerland not to join, or Turkey that it cannot join and Ukraine that it can".
Cardinal Angelo Sodano spoke to reporters after German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger said it would be a huge mistake and 'counter to history' to allow Turkey into the large European club.
