Religion or Ethic Classes Will Be Mandatory at Schools

Slovak President Rudolf Schuster and Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda will sign the Agreement on Religious Education with representatives of eleven registered churches in Slovakia. Meanwhile the Treaty on Catholic Education between the Slovak Republic and the Holy See will be signed. These treaties were approved by the Parliament in January. The treaties will require pupils (or their parents) to choose between religion or ethics classes as a subject in the elementary school. This requirement is currently valid for pupils at junior high school.
