Government Harassing Muslims, Claims Kibaki

Democratic Party of Kenya Chairman, Mr Mwai Kibaki, yesterday accused the Government of harassing by arresting six Kenyan Muslims.

Speaking at a city hotel where he officially opened a party seminar, Kibaki demanded for the release of the suspects.

"We demand that the Government releases Muslim citizens being held under trumped-up charges and fully explain to Kenyans what plans we as a country have put in place for the fight against terrorism," said Kibaki. Among those arrested, Kibaki said, was DP chairman of the National Youth Congress, Mr Rishad Amana, who is also chairman of the Muslim Youth in Kenya.

Meanwhile, police are still holding five people including an Imam arrested in Mombasa and transferred to Nairobi.

Special Crime Prevention Unit boss, Mr Peter Kavila, said two of the suspects had been released. The five are being held at Gigiri Police Station as investigations continue. Those arrested include traders Sharrif Idarus Sagaff, Rishad Amana and an Imam.
