Preacher's head found at bus stop

Kenyan police said on Wednesday they had found the head of a street preacher at a bus stop in Nairobi.

"We recovered the head of Simon Ndabi early yesterday (Tuesday) wrapped in a green plastic paper and dumped near Racecourse bus stop. We have not yet traced the torso but investigations are going on," police spokesperson Jasper Ombati said.

Ombati said Ndabi, who was about 30, was killed after defecting from the banned Mungiki sect and converting to Christianity.

Ndabi was among scores of alleged Mungiki members released from custody last week after a court dismissed a case linking them to murder.

Mungiki was banned in March 2002 following deadly violence in one of Nairobi's sprawling slums.

It has come under fire for its beliefs, such as its support for ritual female genital mutilation.
