Aussie accused of sexually abusing Honduras children

AP - An ex-Mormon missionary from Australia, living illegally in Honduras, has been arrested and charged with child rape, local police say.

John Sepping, 35, was detained on Thursday in Danli, 150km east of Tegucigalpa, on charges that he raped two girls aged 12 and 15.

Sepping arrived in Honduras in 1998 on a 30-day tourist visa and had been living illegally in the country since, police said.

Sepping, who lived in the United States from 1995 to 1998, was removed from the Mormon Church in Kansas City because of problems with parishioners, police said in a news release. They did not elaborate.

If convicted on the charges in Honduras, Sepping would face a sentence of four to seven years in prison.
