Military, cops seize arms, cars from cult group

MILITARY and police operatives raided the camp of a cult organization in Misamis Oriental where they seized 21 assorted and unlicensed firearms and eight vehicles, according to Colonel Rene Cruz of the 9th Infantry Battalion.

Quoted over radio RMN on Wednesday, Cruz said combined elements of the 9th IB, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Philippine National Police launched the raid on the Philippine Benevolent Christian Missionaries in San Antonio headed by one Master Tomas Eugenio.

Cruz said the confiscated weapons included, among others, baby armalites, M-16 rifles and M-14s. The vehicles included 4 limousines, 2 toyotas and 2 vintage cars.

Eugenio's son Charlie was quoted as saying that the firearms served as protection from "rebel threats". He did not elaborate.

Cruz said Eugenio would be investigated.
