Boys raped by church officials, barrister says

A barrister representing clients suing the Anglican church in Adelaide over child sex abuse claims says boys as young as eight were raped and drugged by officials from the church's Adelaide Diocese.

The findings of an independent inquiry into the handling of claims of sexual abuse and misconduct within the diocese are expected to be tabled in Parliament next week.

Adelaide law firm Duncan Basheer Hannon last year launched a class action on behalf of 26 men who allege they were sexually abused by Anglican Church youth leader Robert Brandenburg.

Brandenburg committed suicide after being charged with sex crimes.

Barrister Susan Litchfield says since the action was launched another 29 people have come forward with similar allegations.

"They now involve drug rapes and aggravated rapes with children, boys young boys who are as young as eight to 10 years old," she said.
