Vietnam postpones trial of Protestant pastor

Vietnam has reportedly postponed the trial of a pastor from an underground Protestant church, saying the prosecutor had been taken ill.

The general secretary of the Full Gospel Church of Vietnam, Bui Van Ba, is facing charges of obstructing police.

Supporters say a scuffle happened while trying to take his wife to hospital while Pastor Ba was under house arrest.

Last week, the leaders of 21 house church organisations publicly denounced the case.

They also called for action to be taken against police.

The US State Department groups Vietnam in a worst offenders category of totalitarian and authoritarian states which view religious groups as enemies of the state.
