Muhabura Christians Petition Nkoyooyo

Over 1,000 Christians of Muhabura diocese in Kisoro have petitioned the Church of Uganda archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo.

The Christians petitioned against the appointment of the Rev. Can. David Sebuhinja as their new bishop.

In a January 30 letter which the New Vision saw on Tuesday, the 1,020 Christians who signed it want Nkoyooyo to reverse Sebuhinja's appointment.

"We the undersigned Christians of Muhabura Diocese with great shock have learnt of the decision of the House of Bishops which we had earlier refuted because it did not give us the bishop we wanted," the letter reads.

Can. John Bitunguramye, the district movement chairperson, also signed the letter.

The Christians said if Nkoyooyo does not intervene in the decision of having Sebuhinja as their bishop, they would deny him co-operation.

"We are forwarding our total rejection of that decision and categorically stress that we are not prepared to work under Sebuhinja.
