Police in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands on Wednesday offered a reward of up to R25 000 for information which could lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the death of two middle-aged sisters accused of being witches.
Madudu Shandu, 57, and Bongekile Zungu, 59, were hacked to death and dumped in a sugarcane field in Maphumulo earlier this month.
They were apparently sitting in their home on September 20 with Zungu's daughter, 18, when a man with a bushknife entered and said he had been hired to kill them because they were witches.
Police Inspector Les Botha said: "Shandu had been decapitated and Zungu had sustained severe and fatal neck injuries believed to be inflicted with the bushknife.
"The third victim, an 18-year-old female, was also found with leg injuries and removed to hospital in a stable condition.
